Lesson 1

Тема: Welcome A

Цель:  To teach the regular plural forms

To teach the names of some foods

Организационный момент: Teacher Hello my dear friends. How are you today? How are filling today?  Who is on duty today?  What date is it today? What days is it today?

Аудирование:P4 Ex1. As an introduction ask students who the cleverest person they know is and why they are clever. Ask students if they have heard any stories about people with amazing mental abilities or seen any people on television doing incredible mental feats. Students read the text and answer the question. Tell them not to worry about understanding every word but to focus on the answer to the question. Check answer. Ask students to read through the questions and check understanding. Students answer the questions. Encourage them to try to answer the questions without looking back at the text, but let them look back if necessary. Play the recording while students answer the questions. Ask students to correct the false answers. Allow them to compare their answers with a partner before checking answers in open class. Divide the class into groups of three or four and tell them they are going to find out who has the best memory. Ask each student to write ten words of their choice on a piece of paper without showing the others in their groups. Students then take it in turns to show their words to the rest of their group for 30 seconds. Students must then write down all the words they remember scoring one point for each word. When everybody has shown their words, the person with the highest total score is the winner. Alternatively this could be a whole-class activity with words written on the board by the teacher.

Ask students which actions began first and which actions continued after the interruption. Remind students that we use the past continuous to give background information and the past simple to describe specific actions. Read through the text with students and check understanding of any difficult vocabulary. Ask students to complete the text using the correct form of the verbs in brackets. Allow them to check answer with a partner before open class feedback.   Ex3. For a quick review of the difference between these two forms, write these sentences on the board. Ask students which sentence refers to the past and which refers to the present. Elicit a possible context for each sentence and if students have difficulty explain that used to refers to a repeated or continuous past action which no longer exist and to be used to means to be accustomed to or to find a situation normal. You may like to give further examples of each form to pay attention to

Read a sentence at random from the page. The children must point at the word/phrase you say. After a while, a series of children can take over your role. P33. Ansar and Alua will become regular characters. In MT invite children to guess how old they are and where they come from. The children trace over the sentence. Then, led by you, the whole class read the sentence aloud in unison, pointing at the words as they read. Organise the class into pairs. In each pair one child is Ansar, the other is Alua. They read aloud the contents of the voice balloons accordingly. They then reverse roles and repeat.

Цель:  To present and practice new vocabulary. Describing recent events. Writing an email giving recent news.

Чтение: Ex1. Read and listen. As an introduction, write the words Reader’s problems on the board and give students two minutes to work with a partner and think of the type of problems that appear in teenage magazine. Students read and answer the question. Read through items 1-6 with students and check understanding. Students answer the questions. Play the recording while the students read and find the pieces of advice. If necessary, play the recording again, pausing to check for understanding. Check answers. See the reading text on page 6 of the students book.

Ask students to give your advice and write any sentences with should on the board. Repeat the exercise with past problems and elicit sentences with should have the past participle. Students complete the exercise and check answers with a partner before open class feedback.

Ex3. Ask students to suggest ways ending each sentences. Point out the tense of the verbs used after wish.Students complete the exercise. Allow them to check their answers with a partner before listen open class feedback. Look at the pictures and ask students to describe them. Students write the sentences with wish for each situation. Circulate to check they are using the forms correctly. Let them compare answers with a partner before listening to some of their ideas in open class.

Ex4. Ask students what they do if they have a problem. Do they talk to someone or deal with it themselves? Tell students they are going to read a short text about someone with a problem. Look at the multiple-choice options with students . Students complete the exercise. Check answers.

Ex5. Read through the poem with students and ask them which of the underline phrases are positive and which are negative not discuss the meaning of phrases at this stage. Students match the phrases with the meanings. Check answer. Ask students to discuss the questions with a partner and listen to some of the most interesting answers in open class.

Teacher. In MT ask the children the following questions.

  • Did you like the lesson today?
  • What did you know from the lesson?

Чтение: Ex1. Listen and read. Books closed. Ask students if there is a lot of crime among young people in their country. What sort of crimes do young people commit? Is there a youth gang culture? Ask them if they  this situation is worse or better in the UK. Tell students they are going to read an interview with a man who is helping young criminals in the UK. Play the recording while students read and answer the questions. Check answers. If necessary, play the recording again, pausing to check for understanding.

Ask students to indentify the tense. Point out that we are more interested in the object the library, than the subject, and elicit how a passive construction on the board. Ask students which part of the sentence can be omitted. Look at the example with students and check understanding of the exercise. Students work through the rest of the exercise before feedback in open class. Read through the sentences with students. If they have difficulty with this area, point out the main focus of each sentence and remind them how to start the passive sentence. Students complete the exercise. Circulate and help with any problems before checking any answers in open class.

Ex3. Books closed. To introduce this area, write several activities on the board and ask students if they will do any of these activities at the weekend. Elicit different forms used for future predictions and write some example sentences on the board and ask students if they will do any these activities at the weekend. Let students compare answers with a partner before checking in open class.

Ex4. Look at the pictures with students and ask them to describe what is happening in each one. Help with vocabulary as required. Students match the words with the pictures. Check answers in open class.

Ex5. Tell students they are going to read a text about young criminal. Check understanding of difficult vocabulary. Students complete the exercise and check answers with a partner before feedback in open class.
